Job Description
Field Operations
- Prepare nursery and trial plots, seedlingstransplant.
- Maintain breeding fields and greenhouses, monitor plant growth and health.
- Manage irrigation, fertilizer, and pest control.
Breeding Activities
- Assist incross-pollination/hybridization.
- Bagging and tagging flowers, collect pollen and perform hand pollination.
- Maintain parental lines and hybrids, harvest breeding materials
Data Collection & Records
- Record plant traits (yield, size, color, disease resistance, etc.)
- Maintain breeding registers and field books.
- Label and store seed samples properly.
Lab & Seed Handling
- Seed extraction, cleaning, seed drying and storage.
- Sample preparation for quality testing.
Support to Breeder
- Assist plant breeder in trials, help in evaluation of varieties.
- Manage junior field staff/laborers.
- Follow research protocols
